In the first of a series of blogs, our members give their thoughts on local issues.....
Bedwas park is a gem nestled in the centre of one of the few thriving, working villages where a variety of local businesses contribute to its bustling, lively atmosphere. An oasis on a sunny day for children and young people alike.
Recently however, I’ve witnessed what canonly be described as a mini invasion of antisocial youngsters, too young to enter our entertainment establishments but with few other places to go. They congregate, drink alcoholic and leave the site covered in bottles, broken glass and waste and intimidate all but the very brave.
Shocked this could happen alongside the police station I called them and enquired if they had a plan to tackle this, only to be told they shut at 5, the station’s not there to police the local area and to call the police if I witness this again. If it’s about the rubbish I was encouraged to call CCBC....
I don’t want to get young people in serious trouble ( a good old telling off from the boys in blue would be better) and do we have the resource for a speedy response from CCBC? Unlikely.....but in any event do those actions and interventions stop the issue? No. It simply puts in place a reaction that deals with it every time it happens ... which is a total waste of resource.
These young people need Youth Clubs & regular activities to participate in? Somewhere to develop interests and skills – and shouldn’t we have a patrol of the area by the authorities to protect us and our proprieties?
Daily, I see angry comments being made on a variety of Social Media platforms about this and many other local issues. Unfortunately, whilst these sites allow us to vent our anger, these sites rarely provide a solution. Instead they simply confirm to us that we’re not alone in our anger and despair.
Real Change can only be achieved by your participation rather than discussion. As a lone voice we make little noise. As part of an active, well organised group we can make a level of noise that will be heard and will bring about the solutions we need.
So? Why not meet up with your local Conservative Association and collectively let’s try and make the changes our village needs.
